BYD Forklift Application Cases in Paper Industry

In the Paper Industry The paper industry involves heavy handling tasks, and traditional electric forklifts struggle to meet the handling needs in terms of battery life and power. Therefore, the paper industry has long been considered a 'no-go zone' for electric forklifts. Currently, in material handling operations, paper companies still primarily rely on traditional fuel-powered forklifts. However, with the implementation of national energy-saving and environmental protection policies, the transition from fuel-powered to electric forklifts is gradually progressing in the paper industry. More and more paper companies are beginning to use low-energy, environmentally friendly electric forklifts. As a key participant and promoter of the transition from fuel to electric forklifts, BYD Forklift has been focusing on the widespread application of new energy forklifts and has accumulated rich experience in the paper industry. Leveraging its product advantages, BYD Forklift is bringing a breath of green, new energy to the paper industry. Following our previous case study in the food and beverage industry, this time we will continue to present BYD Forklift's applications in the paper industry based on on-site research data and actual customer usage. Through the sharing of these cases, we aim to explore the application and development of new energy forklifts in the paper industry together with you."

Customer Background

The company is a globally renowned manufacturer of boxboard paper and pulp, with multiple production facilities in China, including Guangdong, Jiangsu, Chongqing, Jiangxi, and others. In this case, we will specifically focus on the company's production facility in Guangdong, China, to introduce BYD Forklift's application solutions in the paper industry. This particular production facility in Guangdong covers an area of approximately 500,000 square meters and has an annual production capacity exceeding 600,000 tons. It primarily produces various types of paper, including cardboard paper, noodle paper, corrugated core paper, and dozens of different specifications and models of products."

Handling Conditions

The main focus of this facility is paper production from recycled paper, and it has multiple production lines with various production processes. The key handling tasks involve loading and unloading of waste paper storage, wood pulp storage, auxiliary material storage, as well as loading finished products for shipping. The entire handling process is characterized by heavy workloads and includes the following:

1. Long working hours, with operations running in a three-shift rotation.

2. Heavy loads, typically exceeding 3 tons.

3. Outdoor operations with handling distances exceeding 1000 meters and uneven road surfaces.

Pain Points Faced

Before using BYD electric forklifts, this facility primarily relied on imported internal combustion forklifts due to the characteristics of heavy and high stacking work conditions. The facility had hundreds of forklifts in its fleet, mainly consisting of 3.5T to 5T counterbalance forklifts, along with a few tow tractors. Due to the extensive use of internal combustion forklifts, the facility had been incurring high maintenance and energy consumption costs for these forklifts. Furthermore, the maintenance warehouse was storing a significant number of forklifts awaiting repair. Over time, the pain points in the handling operations at this facility became increasingly apparent:

1. High Costs: Internal combustion forklifts had high energy consumption, a high failure rate, and high operating costs.

2. Smoke: Internal combustion forklifts emitted dense smoke with a strong odor, especially in the summer, making the workshop air stuffy and unpleasant.

3. Noise: Internal combustion forklifts generated loud noise levels, affecting the hearing of the staff over the long term.

4. Lack of Features: There was a general lack of features such as fans, warning lights, cup holders, and protective overhead canopies."
